Jeffco Public Schools has sued the Trump administration to prevent the U.S. Department of Education from pulling more than $50 million in federal K-12 funding, a step the federal government has threatened to take over policies supporting transgender students, the district announced Tuesday evening.
The lawsuit by Jeffco Public Schools is the latest escalation in an ongoing dispute between the district and the Education Department, which has threatened multiple times now to take away K-12 funding because of policies the federal government says discriminate against girls by allowing transgender students to compete in female sports and use girls’ bathrooms.
