Voters elected Anderson to represent District 3 on the Englewood City Council in 2019 and reelected him in 2023. The City Council voted him in as mayor pro tem in December 2023, city officials said.

In a statement, Englewood Mayor Othoniel Sierra described Anderson as someone who was always there to lend a hand, whether as a friend, neighbor, pastor or elected official.

Anderson was involved in advocating for homeless residents, affordable housing, infrastructure, economic development and bicycle and pedestrian safety, city officials said.

“This is a tremendous loss for our city and our heart goes out to his family and friends during this time of loss,” Sierra said.

Anderson was more than just a boss, outgoing City Manager Shawn Lewis said.

“Mayor Pro Tem Anderson was this rare combination of a constant encourager behind the scenes while simultaneously challenging us as staff to think bigger and do better,” Lewis said in a statement. “I’ll never forget the kindness and care he showed to me and I know so many others throughout his time on council.”

Additional information on Anderson’s death was not immediately available, but it’s not believed to be suspicious, city officials said.
