The watchful eyes of a carnivorous cat stared down from a tree in Westminster on Tuesday, prompting city officials to temporarily shut down a block around the animal as they worked to tranquilize and relocate it.
Eaton Street was closed between 112th Avenue and 113th Avenue after a mountain lion was spotted lounging in a tree, the shortly before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The block, which appears to be in a residential area west of Sheridan Boulevard, reopened just before noon after Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers removed the mountain lion, police said.
An estimated 3,800 to 4,400 mountain lions live in Colorado, . Most of the animals live in the foothills or in canyon and mesa areas, agency officials said.
