Is it too early to etch ‘ name on the NL rookie of the year trophy? The Rockies shortstop extended his hitting streak to nine games in the first inning with his fourth bunt single of the season, tying him with Juan Pierre and Willy Taveras for the league lead. Barmes then doubled in the second, and singled in the fourth, raising his average to a league-leading .456. Entering the game, Barmes was also leading the league in hits, total bases and on-base percentage, and ranked second in slugging and runs. Barmes is the only rookie since at least 1961 to have three four-hit games in April.

DRAB DEFENSE: Underrated in the explosive nature at Coors Field is the tendency for visitors to self-destruct defensively. By all rights, Dodger starter Odalis Perez should have had two outs and nobody on in the first. Instead, Perez had runners on first and second and nobody out after Dodgers first baseman Hee-Seop Choi booted ‘ groundball, and then nobody covered first on Barmes’ bunt. The Rockies went on to score four runs.

VETERANS SHOWING UP: and were a combined 4-for-4 with six RBIs after the second inning, with Wilson ripping a two-run double and two-run homer.
