A restaurant that opened a splashy location in Denver in September 2024 after starting out in South Carolina has closed.
Church and Union, at 1433 17th St., specialized in steak, seafood, small plates and sides. It was founded in Charleston, S.C., and has other locations in Charlotte, N.C., and Nashville. The management group of its parent company, 5th Street Group, includes “Top Chef” alum Jamie Lynch and chef partner Adam Hodgson, who previously worked in various Denver restaurants.
“From our first visit to Denver five years ago, we fell in love with this city, and that feeling never left us. Serving the LoDo community has been a privilege and a joy we will carry with us,” the restaurant wrote on social media. Its last day was June 20.
Located in a 7,500-square-foot space in a historic 1896 building that was originally built as the St. Elmo’s Hotel, Church and Union was known for unusual artwork, including a ceiling mural with all 17,000 words of Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.”
Lynch competed on seasons 14 and 17 of “Top Chef/Top Chef All Stars.” Hodgson, meanwhile, worked in Denver restaurants from 2008 to 2010 and appeared on season 23 of the show “Beat Bobby Flay.”
