Laredo, Texas – After jumping to a four-goal lead and chasing Laredo goalie Jeremy Symington early in the second period, the Colorado Eagles cruised to a 4-1 victory Monday in Game 4 of the CHL President’s Cup.
The Eagles hold a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, which resumes Wednesday night in Laredo. The loss ended the defending champion Bucks’ 15- game home winning streak.
With a 2-0 lead going into the second period, the Eagles scored twice in 21 seconds to send Symington to the bench with just 3:03 gone in the period.
Eagles center Riley Nelson scored at the 2:42 mark for a 3-0 lead, and 21 seconds later Chris Hartsburg picked up a loose puck after Karlis Zirnis was stopped on a breakaway and hit an open net for a 4-0 lead.
Symington, who gave up the four goals on 15 shots, was shaky from the start as Colorado’s Ryan Tobler scored just 1:31 into the game.
Bucks goalie David Guerrera, who had the win Sunday in Game 3, replaced Symington and stopped all 22 shots he faced.
The Bucks had two power- play chances early in the first period but were unable to convert. They are 3-for-17 on power plays in the series, while the Eagles are 3-for-23.
Eagles goalie Paulo Colaiacovo, who gave up a power-play goal 54 seconds into in the third period, finished with 24 saves.
