A 40-year-old man was killed in an avalanche today at the Arapahoe Basin ski area. A search for any additional victims was suspended because of the threat of another slide.

The Summit County Coroner identified the victim as 53-year-old David Conway of Boulder. Conway owned his own construction company.

An autopsy has been scheduled..

Summit County authorities said workers tried to revive the man for about half an hour before pronouncing him dead on the mountain.

Authorities said they did not believe anyone else was missing, but a precautionary search was halted because of continuing slide danger.

The avalanche, 1,000 feet long and 300 to 400 feet wide,
occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on a ski run at the resort.

The run was closed to skiers at the time, but other runs were
open, authorities said.

Resort officials and the Summit County coroner did not
immediately return phone messages.

It was at least the fifth avalanche death in Colorado this
season, according to information from the Colorado Avalanche
Information Center.

Arapahoe Basin typically is one of the last Colorado ski resorts
to close for the season. Its last day is scheduled for June 5.

Four
of its six lifts and nearly all its runs were open Friday.
