Out and about: Our two-week tour of China, organized by Pacific Delight, was the most extraordinary and seamless foreign trip we have experienced. Along with the Forbidden City, Great Wall, terra cotta warriors and the Yangtze River, the Ming Tombs demonstrate the timelessness and rich historical and cultural heritage of China. The tombs, in a valley of the Tianshou Mountains, are where 13 Ming Dynasty emperors are buried. When an emperor died, a funeral procession proceeded down the Avenue of Stone Figures, which is flanked by pairs of huge stone lions, elephants, camels, horses and mythological creatures followed by 12 military and civil court figures.
Travel tip: Bring a large appetite, as a huge breakfast buffet and 10-12-course Chinese meals were the norm. The entire country is a shopper’s delight. Having a conscientious, knowledgeable and detail-oriented tour director results in a more enjoyable experience.
