Out and about: Recipe for a traveling adventure and culinary expedition in New Orleans: First, combine two vacationing families (comprising three generations of Denver natives); stir well into a zesty gumbo pot full of invigorating, Southern hospitality. Flavor with rich New Orleans tradition; historic Cajun scenery; and mouth-watering, world-class food. Next, bake slowly in the hot, humid French Quarters and surrounding bayous for two weeks. If you like really spicy, you can “kick it up a notch” with a taste of decadent Bourbon Street. Include a few refreshing hurricanes (a New Orleans cocktail), if you dare. Stir in lots of fresh fish, crabs, crawfish, alligators, and po’boys. Then, garnish your culinary servings with old-time Mississippi river boats, lively jazz music, magnificent grand old plantations, and lots of very kind, friendly people. Enjoy.
Travel tip: All through your vacation, most locals are working very hard to please you. If you’re flying, using cabs, carriages, hotels, and eating out a lot – carry lots of ones and fives for tipping for good service.
