Robert Sinskey Vineyards 2003 Los Carneros Pinot Blanc (Robert Sinskey Vineyards, Napa, Calif.; about $20/375 ml, available through or Mondo Vino, 303-458-3858)

Want to make fellow wine lovers really happy this holiday season? Really, really happy?

Get them Robert Sinskey’s pinot blanc. The tall, slim vessels it comes in are impressive for their graceful shape and size – the wine is available only in half- or double-sized bottles, enough for a tte–tte or a party, nothing mundanely in between.

Then there’s the sumptuous wine inside. This is pinot blanc in all its glory, smooth and heavy as satin, rich as fresh-ground marzipan, succulent as a ripe pear. It also happens to have been grown organically, so you can feel as pure as it tastes. Or you can just enjoy it for what it is: exceptional pinot blanc.
