Out and About: VietNam is undergoing a true renaissance. New, first-rate
hotels and friendly people await tourists now flying directly to Saigon from Chicago or San Francisco. Side trips by car to the Mekong Delta are easily booked as is a “must-see” trip to the Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnels are an amazing network of underground caves, including kitchens, hospital rooms and emergency exits used by the Viet Cong. We found the Vietnamese to be very hospitable towards Americans, and our dollar is the preferred currency.
Travel Tip: Be ready to be pampered, with low-cost beauty/spa treatments and unbeatable shopping. Bring many one-dollar bills for tips and taxi fares.
