DOLORES

Anasazi Heritage Center reopens

The Anasazi Heritage Center, which recently reopened after an ongoing roof-repair project forced it to close in mid-June, is announcing special events for late July and August.

Archaeologist Donna Glowacki will discuss her views on ancestral Puebloan politics and society during the mass exodus from the Four Corners area in the late 1200s at 2 p.m. July 30 at the center.

Hopi kachina carver Wallace Hyeoma will discuss his spiritual tradition from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5. Navajo weaver Roy Kady will discuss his art and cultural background as he demonstrates his talents from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 6.

An exhibition of Navajo weavings from Teec Nos Pos, Ariz., called “Trees on a Circle” will be on display as soon as conditions permit, through Sept. 10.

For updated information on this exhibit and other activities, call the center at 970-882-5600 or go to www.co.blm.gov/ahc.

The center is 3 miles west of Dolores on Colorado 184.

LAKEWOOD

Belmar home to interactive art

Interactive art objects have been installed at a “sensory park” in Belmar Plaza, at South Teller Street and West Alaska Avenue.

The sculptures include 6-foot-high ears in which visitors can place their heads to experience super hearing; a periscope that allows viewing from a giant’s perspective; speaking tubes for people to talk across a 100-foot span and an 11-ton granite ball that sits on 1 millimeter of water.

LAKEWOOD

Gulch improvements to close road

Improvements to McIntyre Gulch upstream from Holland Street will begin this month. Construction will require Holland Street near West Second Avenue to be closed at times.

The project, in which the city of Lakewood will partner with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, will include lining the channel with boulders and revegetation.
