The principal hired to lead Cole Middle School’s transformation into a privately run charter resigned this month for medical reasons, a school spokesman said Friday.
Chris Clemons notified officials at Denver’s KIPP-Cole College Prep of his decision July 14 and was replaced by Sidra Smith Wahaltere, an assistant principal at the charter school.
Smith Wahaltere, 34, spent her previous five years as director of diversity for Kent Denver School. She also taught English at Kent.
Clemons could not be reached for comment.
KIPP, which stands for the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a California-based foundation that won the bid last year to take over Cole Middle School. The state shuttered Cole because of chronically low test scores.
