Who: Harlan and Kay Davis of Broomfield
Where: Rome
Out and about: A funny thing happened while we were at the Forum. We learned that instead of one ruin, as we had imagined, the Forum is an extremely large area of many ruins. It is centrally located in Rome, adjacent to the Colosseum. The word “forum” originally meant “outside,” a marketplace outside the original Rome that became the center of both government and business. We were amazed to see this one piece of marble with the word “Senate” on it and were in awe of all the history that had taken place here.
Travel tip: If traveling in Rome in the summer be prepared to navigate large crowds, particularly of young American students. Wear comfortable walking shoes, carry water and extra batteries.
