The owner of a popular coffee and lunch spot in historic Larimer Square plans to remain there when his lease expires in five months.

Mark Greenberg, who opened The Market more than 22 years ago, on Monday confirmed that the popular meeting place faces a lease renewal. Margaret Ebeling, Larimer Square’s director of marketing, said she could not comment on individual tenant leases but expects The Market to stay.

Larimer Square has seen significant turnover recently, including the closure of longtime tenant Josephina’s and openings that include Rioja restaurant, dessert shop Gelazzi and Martini Ranch, a bar. Adding to the new lineup, Larimer Square has signed a tenant made up of three boutiques launched by Dallas entrepreneur Ort Varona.

The tenant, LFT, will take over 4,500 square feet formerly occupied by Elevation Outfitters, which relocated to Boulder this year. LFT, which will include the Octane, Premium 93 and Ted Baker London boutiques, is to open Thursday.

At 22 years, The Market’s tenure in Larimer Square is surpassed only by Gusterman’s Silversmiths, which has been in the square since 1964, and Comedy Works, which opened in 1981.

Gusterman’s owner Mary Eckles said she’s excited about the recent changes in the area. Like Greenberg, she said she intends to remain.

“As long as Larimer Square wants me, I’ll be here,” she said.
