Wyoming won the Denver Classic on Sunday after tying Colorado in the championship game at Pioneer Field, then winning the soccer tournament in a shootout.
The 25th-ranked Buffaloes scored first when Fran Munnelly fed Tricia Regan for a goal in the 43rd minute. Then, with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, Wyoming’s Amanda Lathrop assisted freshman Tamika Wilson on a breakaway goal to tie the game. After a scoreless overtime, Wyoming (2-0-1) hit all five of its penalty-kick opportunities, while Colorado (2-1-2) scored four.
Roadrunners, Rangers roll on
Metro State, behind two goals each from Amy Leichliter and Anne Ormrod, shut out Minnesota State 6-0 at Auraria Field. Ormrod scored her first goal on a breakaway in the 21st minute and Metro State (3-0-0) went up 2-0 at half. Leichliter scored two goals in eight minutes in the second half.
Regis rolled past Central Oklahoma 4-0 at its home field. Cassie Cornett opened scoring for the Rangers (2-0-0) in the 20th minute, then scored again just before halftime. Kate Murphy, who also had two assists, scored in the 48th minute to put the game out of reach.
