Yarden Galilee
Sparkling Blanc de Blancs, about $20
(Imported by Yarden Inc., New York)
When it comes to finding bargain prices, wine is a like real estate: You have to be persistent, and you have to look where few other people are looking. So, say, if you want to find great sparkling wine, you might look to Israel. And if you did, you would find Yarden’s Blanc de Blancs, a crisp sparkler made from grapes grown in the cool heights of Galilee, where the chardonnay gets ripe but doesn’t loose its racy vibrancy. It’s made in the same way that the French make champagne, including aging the wine in the bottle for a few years to give it a more complex, almost toasty flavor. For $20, it’s a deal. And if you want to taste it before buying, then come to Denver University Center for Judaic Studies’ first Kosher Wine Tasting, 7-9 p.m. Thursday. All proceeds benefit the Center for Judaic Studies. Call 303-871-3020 for tickets and information.
