Alamosa – Marcus Sias scored two touchdowns in his first career 100-yard rushing game to help Adams State to a 27-23 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Fort Lewis on Saturday.

Sias finished with 136 yards after a shaky start. Sias’ fumble on the Grizzlies’ second play led to a score for Fort Lewis (1-2, 1-1) and the Skyhawks led 7-0.

But Sias bounced back to score the next two touchdowns on runs of 21 and 3 yards, and the Grizzlies (2-2, 2-0) went up 14-7 before the second quarter.

Adams State’s Scott Coxon was 21-for-30 passing with one interception and a touchdown. His 1-yard run for another touchdown tied it 20-20 with 4:48 to go in the third quarter. Three minutes later Fort Lewis’ Mikael Bjork made his third field goal, a 55-yarder, to put the Skyhawks ahead 23-20.

But Coxon threw a 14-yard pass to Quin Harrison with 4:03 left in the game to give Adams State the lead for good.

Fort Lewis’ Matt Gutierrez, who was intercepted by Cody Rohlwing on the Skyhawks’ final series, was 9-of-27 passing for 169 yards and two scores.

Mesa State 64, N.M. Highlands 51, OT

Grand Junction – Mesa State’s Creed James returned a fumble 63 yards to ice an overtime RMAC victory over New Mexico Highlands.

Mesa State (1-3, 1-1), which trailed 44-31 to begin the fourth quarter, scored two touchdowns – a Phil Vigil 7-yard run and a Bobby Coy 15-yard run – to force overtime at 44-44.

Highlands’ Jess Brinson scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to help the Cowboys to an early overtime lead. But Coy, who finished with a game-high 193 yards rushing, scored the last of his four touchdowns on an 11-yard run.

The Mavericks finally took the lead 58-51 on William Simpson’s 3-yard touchdown run. On the next possession, James returned a fumble to wrap up the victory.

Highlands’ Ronnie Simpson was 12-of-25 for 354 yards and five touchdowns passing to lead the Cowboys (0-4, 0-2).

Nebraska-Kearney 37, Western State 12

Gunnison – Jake Richards rushed for 73 yards and scored three second-half touchdowns to help lead Nebraska-Kearney over Western State.

Lopers quarterback Marcus Goldenstein was 21-of-36 for 203 yards and Kyle Rupp had 13 catches for 137 yards.

The Mountaineers (0-4, 0-2) took a 9-3 lead in the first quarter after a 46-yard field goal by Jason Davis and an 11-yard run by Avionne James. The Lopers scored 10 points in the second quarter and led 13-9 at halftime.

Just minutes into the second half, Nebraska-Kearney (3-1, 1-0) jumped ahead 20-12 after Richards scored his first touchdown.

South Dakota 44, Colorado Mines 41, OT

Golden – South Dakota’s Frank Leibfrath kicked a 33-yard field goal in overtime, negating a 28-point Colorado Mines comeback, to beat the Orediggers at Brooks Field.

Trailing 41-13 to begin the fourth quarter, Mines (1-3) stormed back, scoring four unanswered touchdowns, three by Bryan Florendo. Florendo twice ran for touchdowns from 1 yard and caught a 69-yard score from Danny Medina, and Justin Gallas scored on a 27-yard pass play to force overtime at 41-41.

South Dakota jumped to a 26-3 first-quarter lead behind quarterback Wes Beschorner, who threw three early touchdown passes. South Dakota led 34-13 at the half before stretching the lead to 41-13 after three quarters.

Tabor College 66, Colorado College 30

Colorado Springs – Tabor College jumped to an early 21-3 lead and Ricky Ishida threw for 225 yards as Tabor College rolled over Colorado College at Washburn Field.

Roger Butler’s 9-yard scoring run with 1:43 left in the first quarter, his second of the game, gave Tabor (2-0) a 21-3 lead.

Chris Neal led the Tigers (0-2) with 125 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-24 passing.
