The investigative arm of Congress believes the cleanup of Rocky Flats is proceeding according to plan, Sen. Wayne Allard, R-Colo., said Thursday.
The General Accounting Office briefed Allard on its investigation into the status of the former nuclear-weapons plant site and said that Kaiser-Hill, the contractor for the cleanup, intends to complete its work in October.
“The GAO investigators were very impressed by the Department of Energy’s effort to clean up the radioactive contamination at Rocky Flats,” Allard said. “Although the cleanup is still ongoing, what has been achieved so far was far beyond GAO’s expectations.”
