Samuel Adams Octoberfest

What could be more American than a good ol’ Octoberfest beer?

With the Great American Beer Festival in town this weekend, the focus is on beers American, and Octoberfest (or, if you prefer, Oktoberfest) is getting more American all the time.

The beer originated in Germany in 1810, but its popularity is growing among U.S. brewers, mirroring the popularity of Oktoberfest celebrations.

And if anyone can jump on a beer trend, it’s Jim Koch, founder of Boston Beer Co. and a relentless spokesman for American beers.

More properly a marzen in style, Koch’s Samuel Adams Octoberfest is a gorgeous deep copper color, but German-beer fans will be disappointed in the rather mild malt profile and barely a hint of hops. Eminently drinkable at large parties like, say, Oktoberfest.

It’s available through October in six- and 12-packs.
