The $285 million Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center will create 560 new jobs for downtown Denver.

The jobs are broken down into 15 categories, including 200 food and beverage jobs, 100 management jobs, 70 housekeeping jobs and seven door-attendant jobs.

“We’re like a small city,” said Hyatt Regency Denver general manager John Schafer. “Name a job, we probably have it.”

Salaries will range from $20,000 to $75,000, said Schafer.

All full-time positions include matching retirement plans, health benefits and paid vacation and sick time.

Other employee perks include free cafeteria meals and a 50 percent discount on bus passes.

“Parking can be a challenge downtown, so we thought why not encourage mass-transit use,” said Schafer.

Employment in the leisure and hospitality segment was projected to grow 2 percent to 254,000 jobs in Colorado this year.

Scheduled to open in December, the Hyatt Regency Denver currently has about $100 million in advance room bookings through 2013, said David Gauthier, director of sales and marketing. Roughly $25 million of that is convention-related business for next year, he said.

To fill the open positions, the hotel and the Denver Office of Economic Development will host a job fair at the Temple Buell Theatre Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Metro Denver’s unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in August.

“That means there are a substantial number of people looking for work right now,” said Tom Clark, executive vice president of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. “I expect they’ll have a very nice turnout.”
