Ed Greene and Mayor Hick, two rascals who have a lot of elf in them, tour the city and the holidays for “Denver Mile High Holidays: Celebrate the Season” (6:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday, KCNC-Channel 4).
“Working with Ed Greene was so much fun it made me wonder if I was in the right career,” said the mayor.
The 30-minute tour includes the lights at the City and County Building, the Parade of Lights, Larimer Square and Union Station and the city’s neighborhoods.
Hickenlooper proves he chose the right career, telling Greene, “Every season’s a great season to be in Denver.”
Weekend highlights
Today
Not a minute too soon. More than 6,000 exhibitors at gift shows in Atlanta and New York help us decide how to spend our bucks in this jolly season in “Holiday Gifts 2005” (7 p.m., HGTV).
“Movies That Shook the World” takes a look, with clips and interviews, at the 1973 classic “American Graffiti,” which made film stars of Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford and the immortal Wolfman Jack (8 p.m., AMC).
Saturday
Both games of the inaugural Colorado Classic basketball tourney at the Pepsi Center are on FSN Rocky Mountain. Colorado State plays the University of Denver at 6 p.m., and Colorado meets St. Mary’s at 8:30 p.m. Drew Goodman calls both games.
A widower (James Earl Jones) honors his wife’s last request, setting up a storefront where anyone can read a book or have a free soda. Georg Stanford Brown directs a cast including daughter Kathryne Dora Brown and ex-wife Tyne Daly (7 p.m., Hallmark Channel).
Sunday
The Three Wise Guys take center stage in “Denis Leary’s Merry … Christmas Special,” obviously not for the young’uns. Leary takes on the three “S’s” of Christmas – smokes, Santa and swearing (11 p.m., Comedy Central).
Land of Oz
The man behind the curtain is leaving. Curt Silver, the producer behind KMGH-Channel 7’s award-winning investigative programs, like the Air Force Academy scandal, is so good the FBI has called him to duty.
He reports Sunday for agent training at Quantico, Va.
“It’s a bittersweet thing,” said John Ferrugia, one of the benefactors of Silver’s expertise. “He was a key and integral part of our unit. He’s obviously one of the best at what he does.”

Think your holiday is busy? Check out ESPN’s Mike Tirico (he did play-by-play for Thursday’s Pittsburgh-West Virginia game) who calls today’s Colorado-Nebraska game (1:30 p.m.) from Boulder, then goes to Palm Springs for a golf tournament Saturday … Quotable: “Christmas is the one time of year when people of all religions come together to worship Jesus Christ.” – Bart Simpson
