Dallas – Louisiana-Monroe’s women’s basketball team rolled over the University of Denver 66-54 on Saturday in the third-place game of the Hoops for the Cure Classic at Southern Methodist University.
Denver was led by Nnenna Akotaobi’s 13 points, while Jenna Cole and Lauren Reini each scored 11. LaJeanna Howard scored a game-high 22 points for Louisiana-Monroe.
Denver, which fell behind 17-0, scored its first point on a free throw by Anne Jasperson with 11:27 left in the first half. But the Pioneers’ bench helped bring them back, scoring 39 of the team’s 54 points.
Denver came back from a 12-point halftime deficit to within 43-41 with nine minutes remaining. But Louisiana-Monroe never lost the lead.
Denver fell to 1-2. Louisiana-Monroe is 3-1.
