An Arvada man left for dead in his apartment after three men shot him and fatally shot his girlfriend was able to identify the suspects.

The 25-year-old man, whose identity was not released, was under police protection Wednesday night, Arvada police Chief Ron Sloan said.

Police said the victims knew the suspects, but would not elaborate.

Angel Delgado, 25, was shot to death after three men broke into her boyfriend’s apartment at Westward Look Apartments, 5684 Kip ling Parkway, at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sloan said.

Arvada police arrested Kenji Jones, 27, of Jefferson County on Wednesday morning without incident. Jones is being held at the Jefferson County Detention Facility for investigation of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

A second suspect, Mario Rios, 26, surrendered to a Denver police officer just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, and was turned over to Arvada police, authorities said. A third suspect, Vincent Ortiz, 26, was still at large Wednesday night.

The injured man was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to police.

Police are still investigating why the three suspects forced their way into the apartment and shot the victims, Sloan said. Delgado and her boyfriend were the only people in the apartment at the time of the attack. The suspects left thinking they had killed both, Sloan said.

The department delayed releasing the identity of the victims and the suspects because of safety concerns for the surviving victim, and to give detectives time to track down the suspects, Sloan said.
