Two window washers went for a wild, wind-blown ride today on a scaffold 12-stories above the street before the pair were saved by firefighters.

One of the two workers was slightly injured but refused medical treatment, said Lt. Phil Champagne of the Denver Fire Department. The workers were not identified.

The men rode the scaffold for about ten minutes as it swayed along the building from side to side, breaking windows. It swayed about 100-feet and at some points flew away from the building jutting about 40 feet out, over the street below. Pedestrians scrambled to avoid flying shards of glass. No one on the street was injured.

The accident happened at about 10 a.m. at Denver Place Plaza Tower, 1099 18th St.

More than 30 firefighters arrived on the scene, including a specially trained “High Angle Rescue Team,” Champagne said.

Rescuers broke a window on the 12th floor from the inside and a firefighter used a 14-foot long pole to reach the men. They grabbed it and were pulled in to safety.
