Montevideo – Filming in Uruguay of the movie version of the hit 1980’s TV series “Miami Vice” got underway Saturday, a project directed by Michael Mann and starring Irish actor Colin Farrell and American star Jamie Foxx,

Shooting began in Montevideo’s old town and at the seaside resort Atlantida, an area 50 kilometers (31 miles) east of this capital, for scenes supposedly taking place in Havana.

The film, which has the same name as the TV show that Mann produced, tells the story of two Miami anti-narcotics detectives known as James “Sonny” Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs.

Foxx, who plays the role of Tubbs, did not make the trip to Uruguay since the scenes filmed there do not involve his character.

Some shooting for the film, a Universal Pictures production due out in the summer of 2006, has already been carried out in the Dominican Republic, the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este and in Miami.
