Buenos Aires – Argentina’s exports increased 17 percent in the first 10 months of 2005 compared to the same period last year, the Foreign Ministry announced here on Sunday.

According to a ministry communique, sales abroad during the period amounted to $34.7 billion, up from $33.3 billion during the same span in 2004.

The data indicate that industrial product exports experienced the greatest growth over last year, reaching $9.7 billion between January and October, a 29 percent increase over the same period in 2004.

The main markets for Argentina’s exports were Brazil, Chile, the United States, China and Spain, but there was an “important increase” in purchases by Russia and Germany, according to the communique.

Among the products exported were vehicles, soybeans, meat, sunflower oil, chemicals and fuels of various sorts.

According to ministry forecasts, Argentine exports should reach $40 billion by the end of the year.
