Fresno State’s wrestling team edged Wyoming 24-18 at North Gym in Fresno, Calif., in the first dual of the season for both teams.
The Cowboys’ Kyle Dye pinned his seventh opponent of the season in the 149-pound division when he got Lucas Anderson to the mat at 5:56 to give Wyoming an early 6-0 lead. But Fresno State came back to score 16 consecutive points.
Wyoming senior Dusty Hoffschneider, a product of Columbine High School, beat Cody Parker in a 4-3 decision in the heavyweight division in his first match of the season. Also, Tyson Shatto scored a 6-4 overtime victory over Sean Carlson at 133.
Skyhawks named soccer All-Americans
Three members of the NCAA Division II champion Fort Lewis soccer team were named first-team All Americans: Bryan Eisenbraun, formerly of Lakewood’s Green Mountain High; John Cunliffe; and Cole Sweetser. Fort Lewis’ Nick Clark (Durango High) and Antonio Porras of Metro State (Heritage High) were named to the second team.
