Guaynabo, Puerto Rico – South Florida junior Jessica Dixon scored 24 points to lead the Bulls to a 72-59 victory over Colorado and the championship of the San Juan Shootout Wednesday night at the Mario Morales Coliseum.
Dixon earned MVP honors as South Florida won the tournament title and moves to 9-2 overall. Colorado (4-6) was led by junior Jasmina Ilic’s 20 points, while sophomore Jackie McFarland had 17. McFarland was CU’s lone member of the all-tournament team.
A pair of South Florida runs at the beginning of each half proved to be the difference. The Bulls led by five at halftime, 39-34, and opened the second half with a 10-0 run.
Colorado whittled the lead down to 62-54 with 4:33 left but could get no closer.
Denver 60, Gonzaga 52
Tyesha Lowery hit several key shots and forced a turnover in the final two minutes to give DU (5-5) the home win over the Bulldogs (3-9). Lowery led the Pioneers with 17 points.
Brooke Meyer added 13 points, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and Venice Adams recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Wyoming 51, Weber St. 36
Ogden, Utah – The Cowgirls held Weber State (5-4) to under 33 percent shooting for the game, and to only five points in the last four minutes to seal the win.
Sophomore Jodi Bolerjack led Wyoming (9-1) with 18 points.
Fort Lewis 74, Western New Mexico 55
Durango – Amie Moulton scored 22 points and dished out six assists, and the Skyhawks (4-7) held Western New Mexico (0-7) without a field goal in the last 4:30 to pick up their first home win of the season.
