Havana, Cuba – Cuba honored five artists, including singer-songwriter Pablo Milanes and cabaret performer Rosita Fornes, with its 2005 National Music Awards.
The prizes were handed out Tuesday night at a gala in Havana’s Amadeo Roldan theater. Awards also went to pianist Frank Fernandez, musicologist Maria Antonieta Henriquez and choral director Cuca Rivero.
Performing at the event were guitarist Pancho Amat and his El Cabildo del Son group, opera soprano Barbara Llanes, pianist Pura Ortiz, the Children’s Choir, the National Choir of Cuba and the National Symphony Orchestra.
The evening also featured honoree Milanes teaming up with singer-songwriter Carlos Varela on their respective compositions “Dias de gloria” and “Habaname.”
