ScottyBob’s Handcrafted Skis in Silverton were made for telemark turns. The design shaves off the rear outside edge of the ski to create two sidecuts on each stick – the inside edge is boot center and the outside edge is shifted forward for when the heel weights the ski. Two years ago the scrappy ski-maker enlisted investors. And those new investors recently realized there are many more alpine skiers than telemark skiers. Hence a new line of alpine ScottyBob’s is in the works, offering what likely is one of the more innovative notions in ski design to the masses of fixed-heel skiers. The idea is that the new Big Boy (ultra wide with a 142mm shovel and a 102mm waist in the 180) will save energy and increase efficiency in the powder.
