Getting your player ready...

Q: Scott,

I read your response to “Dateless,” and I thought you need to be aware of a few things.

Meeting people online can be great, but they are not free. Most of the websites allow you to put your profile online for free, but you cannot e-mail or respond to e-mail for free. You have to have a paid membership.

You can be inventive and find ways to get your number or e-mail into your profile, but usually someone auditing profiles finds the information, and deletes it.

If you know of completely free sites, I would like to know. I am a 47-year-old single Mom of three almost all grownup children, and I too am looking for my soul mate.

– Been there, done that

SCOTT: Have you been to MySpace (www.myspace.com)? All of the features are free on this site which is supported entirely by advertising.

With over 14 million members, you’re bound to run into at least a dozen soul mates. Or for next to free you can try Webdate (www.webdate.com), where for as little as $12.50 per month you can email, video chat or IM all 5 million of their subscribers.

Another option is Yahoo Personals (http://personals.yahoo.com/), which still is not terribly expensive (who can put a price on love?) It’s easy to use, has lots of features, and over nine million members!

To quote their catchphrase: “At $24.95 a month, it’s less than a round of drinks”. Good point.
