A sex assault suspect swapped identification with another inmate, and walked out of the Adams County Jail this morning. Denver police say he is also a “person of interest” in a double homicide.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in locating Steven Mathew Rodriguez, 31.

Rodriguez had obtained the ID of an inmate who was scheduled to be released on bond, according to authorities. When the other inmate was called at about 4:00 a.m this morning, Rodriguez answered, and was improperly released.

Rodriguez, of Brighton, is Hispanic, about 240 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, who stands about 5’11”.

He was being held in a Commerce City sexual assault case, and on a parole violation for a prior trespassing case.

Virginia Quinones, spokeswoman for Denver Police, said Rodriguez is also wanted for questioning in connection with a double homicide.

He’s now facing new charges in the escape, according to authorities.
