Authorities have lifted a mandatory evacuation order for a Boulder County neighborhood, after firefighters from nine agencies made major headway against a fire this afternoon.

It began around 12:30 p.m, near the 3300 block of Sunshine Canyon. Residents of about 25 homes were notified by phone, and deputies went door-to-door in the Pinebrook Hills area.

About 12 homes were seriously threatened, but by 4 p.m., the fire was 75 percent contained. Firefighters predicted it would be 100 percent contained by 6 p.m.

It was estimated to be at least five acres in size.

Firefighters from across Boulder County responded, including Lefthand, Gold Hill, Nederland, Four Mile and Eldorado Springs fire districts.

Some nearby schools were affected, including Flatirons Elementary, Centennial Middle School and Boulder High School. Students who lived near the fire area were held at school, or taken to another site for pickup by parents.
