Safe disposal for thermometers

Household mercury thermometers, which can pose a health threat if disposed of improperly, will be collected by the Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment through July.

Residents may take their mercury thermometers in the original protective case or inside an empty plastic bottle to the following sites:

Arvada, 6303 Wadsworth Bypass; Conifer, Mountain Resource Center, 11030 Kitty Drive; Golden, 1801 18th St.; and Lakewood, 260 S. Kipling St.

Animal center fundraiser April 29

CATillion, the Table Mountain Animal Center’s major fundraiser, will be from 6 to 11 p.m. April 29 at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd.

Tickets are $100 per person, $180 per couple and $850 for a table of 10. The event includes a silent auction, dinner, dancing and casino gambling.

Walk will honor victims of crime

The 13th annual Courage Walk in honor of crime victims will begin at 11 a.m. April 29 at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Building in Golden.

The public is invited to join representatives from the Sheriff’s Office, district attorney’s office and other community groups in walking 1 mile from the county building to the courage garden.

With each pledge made in someone’s name, a dove will be released. Colorado Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald is the keynote speaker.

Walkers may arrive for a continental breakfast at 10 a.m. Donors are not required to participate in the event, which coincides with National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
