CU ski team to visit the White House

The University of Colorado ski team, which won its 17th NCAA championship March 11 in Steamboat Springs, is being honored with a visit to the White House to meet President Bush on National Student-Athlete Day, April 6. The Buffs’ skiers will be the first CU team to visit the White House – the 1990 national champion football team’s trip was canceled because of the Persian Gulf War, which began in January 1991.

CU coach Richard Rokos, who in 1981 defected to Detroit from communist Czechoslovakia, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I got the call. To say that I am excited about this opportunity would be an understatement.”
