ACTION FRIEND

When your musical idols are Mike Patton, Melvins and Ennio Morricone, you’re either schizophrenic or brilliant. This Denver trio splits the difference, cranking out jittery mini-epics for avante-garde metalheads and indie kids alike. Saturday at Bruno’s Saloon, 8501 E. Colfax Ave., 10 p.m., $5. Thursday opening for Chrome at the Bluebird Theater, 3317 E. Colfax Ave. 8 p.m. $10.

SPELLBINDER

Kokopelli’s, formerly Manny’s Smokehouse, hosts an eclectic variety of acts every night. Reggae singer Spellbinder and his band, which includes Joe Gomez, Michael Joseph, River Jordan and George Vasovic, have proven the biggest draw so far, often packing the club until closing with their tasty grooves. Check out their sets on Tuesdays at 2233 Larimer St. 9:30 p.m. Free.

ANGIE STEVENS BAND

This busy singer-songwriter is coming off a successful 2005 with a pair of sweet April shows: She’ll help kick off the 2006 Colorado Rockies home opener Monday at noon at the parking lot at 20th and Market streets, then play a full set Thursday at The Walnut Room, with the John Common Band and Rebecca Folsom, 3131 Walnut St., 8 p.m., $6.

John Wenzel can be reached at 303-820-1642 or jwenzel@denverpost.com.
