Q: I just read your answer to “.” I am the grandmother who wrote it, and I thought maybe you would be interested to know the update to my dilemma.

My daughter did not give up on her daughter completely, and my granddaughter is still going back and forth between parent each week — my daughter did relent and take her back at the request of her ex-husband.

My granddaughter still has school problems and will hopefully go to summer school this year to catch up. She and my daughter have big anger issues between them still, and have had some big fights.

But my daughter found a counselor for her and I pray my granddaughter is going regularly to learn to cope with her mother and her own anger. I just wish my daughter would do the same!

I agree, not all people should be parents, and I wonder often where I went wrong with my own daughter, but it seems we are not all perfect parents in this world and do the best we can with what we have learned from our own parents.

I believe in counseling, as I have had some myself, but not soon enough I fear for my daughter’s sake. Is there a parenting class I could refer her to somewhere in Denver?

Thanks for posting my letter, and I will offer to take my granddaughter weekly, but not sure my daughter will do it.

– Grandmother with the dilemma

SCOTT: Thanks for the update, Grandma. I love updates! I’m glad your daughter didn’t give up, now she needs guidance.

Don’t beat yourself up with the pointlessness of where you went wrong with your own daughter, because like you said, you did the best you could. What matters most at this point is that she does the best she can with her own kids.

In Denver, try the City and County of Denver’s Family and Children’s division (720-944-2162) for information on basic parenting classes. They’re offered regularly in ten week sessions throughout the metro area.

If you don’t live in Denver, let me know and I’ll point you in the right direction to get your daughter the help she needs.
