Xingu Black Beer
Got a beer snob on your party list, one who claims to have tasted every beer ever made?
Spring this one on ’em: Xingu Black Beer.
Pronounced “shin-goo,” it’s made in Brazil and has very mysterious roots. Brewed by the Cervejarias Kaiser Brasil Ltd.,since 2002, the beer dates to at least 1557, made by Indians in the Amazon region from roasted corn or manioc root, a tuber, and wild yeast. The name comes from a tributary of the Amazon River.
Xingu Black Beer, as the name implies, is a deep mahogany, almost black. It starts out quite sweet then fades away, with very little hop presence or carbonation. It is also 4.7 percent alcohol (by volume). There is a hint of berries and raisins, too.
I found this one at Applejack Liquors.
