Eaton Corp. is moving some of its aerospace operations from Colorado, eliminating the jobs of 120 manufacturing employees in Aurora and 20 in Denver.

Cleveland-based Eaton last year acquired Stanley Aviation in Aurora and FR-HiTemp in Denver from England-based Cobham Plc in a deal that closed Nov. 1.

“When an acquisition takes place, there’s always a case where there might be overlap” or ways to consolidate, said Eaton spokesman Peter Parsons.

Eaton said Wednesday it will relocate tube bending, metal forming and fuel-conveyance assembly work from the Aurora location to a facility in Tijuana, Mexico, by January. It will eliminate 120 jobs in phases and keep 108 employees there in engineering, ground-support equipment and administration.

The Tijuana move is being made to maintain competitiveness, said Martin Kurzdorfer, Stanley Aviation’s vice president of marketing.

The company will also close its aerospace operations in Denver by the end of this year. It employs 20 there to run a Federal Aviation Administration-certified fuel-pump repair station, which will be moved to Eaton’s Jackson, Miss., facility, which manufactures hydraulic pumps.

Employees were notified Wednesday, according to Eaton.

Eaton is an industrial manufacturer with 60,000 employees. Its major aerospace customers include airlines, the military and aircraft manufacturers.
