DU women’s golf wins Sun Belt championship

The University of Denver women’s golf team, led by Katie Kempter’s second-place finish, won the Sun Belt Conference championship Wednesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Pioneers, who began the final round in fourth place, shot a 7-over-par 295 to erase a four-stroke deficit and finish with a 54-hole score of 909. North Texas was second at 912. Kempter tied for medalist honors but lost on the second playoff hole to Taryn Durham of Middle Tennessee, who parred the hole.

The DU men finished seventh at the Sun Belt championships, finishing with a 24-over 888. North Texas won the team title in a playoff against Western Kentucky and South Alabama.

The University of Colorado women’s team finished third at the Big 12 championship at the Country Club of Lincoln (Neb.) with a 58-over 922, 23 strokes behind winner Texas A&M.

Crush to move April 28 AFL game

The Colorado Crush’s Arena Football League game against the Orlando Predators scheduled for April 28 will be moved to accommodate the Avalanche’s playoff game that night at the Pepsi Center. The Crush will play either Saturday, April 29 or Sunday, April 30 – depending on which day the Nuggets use the Pepsi Center for their NBA playoff game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Mudbugs win Game 2, series heads to La.

The Colorado Eagles suffered their second home loss in the past two playoffs, losing 3-2 to Bossier-Shreveport in the CHL Northern Conference finals in Loveland.

Colorado outshot the Mudbugs 47-24, but David Cacciola was outstanding in goal, making 45 saves for Bossier- Shreveport. Dan Wildfong scored the game winner in the second period, tipping in a Dale Lupul shot.
