The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team capped its season with a 7-3 victory over Air Force in a Great Western Lacrosse League game in Colorado Springs on Saturday. The Pioneers finished the GWLL undefeated as league champion, earning its automatic NCAA tournament berth.
Denver (12-4, 5-0 GWLL) was led by Joe Murray, who scored two goals, and goaltender Jeb Hollingsworth, who made eight saves in a complete game.
“There hasn’t been a team that has gone 5-0 in the Great Western Lacrosse League in a long time,” Denver coach Jamie Munro said, “and for our guys to accomplish that says a lot about our team.”
Air Force finished at 7-9, 2-3.
Metro State sweeps doubleheader with Mines
The Metro State baseball team swept at doubleheader with Colorado Mines in Golden, winning 9-1 and 13-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Metro State (23-21, 16-11 RMAC) was led by two complete-game pitching performances. Josh Eckert (5-6) allowed four hits for the win in the opener. Braden Ham (7-3) gave up six hits for the nine-inning win in the second game.
Colorado Mines (14-33, 5-22) got the first-game loss behind Kevan Dee (3-6) who allowed eight runs in five innings. Matt Thome (5-7) gave up six earned runs for the loss in the finale.
In the first game, Metro State got two home runs from Randy Lashua, who went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
Tully Gallagher went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run over the two games to lead Colorado Mines.
Texas men’s tennis eliminates CU in Big 12
The University of Texas men’s tennis team blanked Colorado 4-0 in the semifinal round at the Big 12 championships in Waco, Texas.
The No. 3-seeded Buffaloes (19-8), playing in their first conference semifinal in 10 years, lost the doubles point, then fell in three of the six singles matches. The No. 2-seeded Longhorns have never lost to the Buffs.
