New York – AT&T Inc. plans to expand its high-speed Internet offerings by selling satellite-based access to customers in rural areas who can’t be reached by broadband over phone lines.

AT&T said Monday that it will partner with Greenwood Village-based WildBlue Communications Inc. to sell satellite broadband under its own brand, starting this month in some areas.

WildBlue launched its service in June and reported 25,000 customers nationwide at the end of 2005. In January, the company received $218 million in financing, led by Douglas County-based Liberty Media Corp. Liberty holds a 33 percent stake in WildBlue.

AT&T plans to expand the WildBlue service later this year to all customers in its 13-state local service area who cannot get a digital subscriber line, or DSL.
