Boycott. Peter Boyles, the radio yakfest host who’s lately made it his life’s work to keep our borders safe from illegal immigrants, has taken on a new foe – us, you’re friendly neighborhood newspapers. I never …

Boyles has called for a boycott of Denver’s two major dailies on May 18. “How about a day without newspapers?” Boyles asked his KHOW 630-AM listeners Monday morning. “I thought about it all weekend. Go one day without a paper,” he told me. “Let ’em know you’re displeased.”

Among his supporters in the boycott are Bob Newman and Jon Caldara. “The more the merrier,” said Boyles.

What set him off was an article in Friday’s Rocky Mountain News about a man whose nephew was killed in a traffic accident with an illegal immigrant and linking the uncle to the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform, a group Boyles is working with. “None of it is true,” said Boyles.

He’s also at odds with Post columnists Cindy Rodriguez and Diane Carman, both of whom are on the opposite side of the fence, as it were, from Boyles on the illegal-immigration issue. “It’s about how they write things that I have a problem with. And nobody goes after the mayor.”

Boyles and his CAIR cohorts plan to put up three billboards around town, all with a military theme, “They did not die for open borders.” One of them will be erected near a restaurant owned by Mayor Hickenlooper, who, Boyles has repeated often, has made Denver a “sanctuary city” for illegals.

News editor and publisher John Temple did not return a phone call for comment before deadline.

More ‘Jammin”?

Still hope: There’s a glimmer for fans of KDJM 92.-FM (“Jammin”‘), which changed formats in December.

CBS Radio is planning to add three high-definition stations to its Denver roster, one of which would be a return of the jammin’ oldies format, on KIMN HD2.

Don Howe, senior vice president for CBS Radio Denver, confirms it’s part of a plan to add a country format and a “pre-Beatles” oldies format but no date has been set. Several local stations probably will announce new HD formats at once.
