Colorado State hired Brian Joyce as a men’s basketball assistant coach Monday. Joyce spent seven years coaching at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, four as the head coach. During his time, the team averaged 24 wins per season, and the Plainsmen were Region IX and District IX champions in 2000. Joyce was named District IX coach of the year in 2005.

CU, DU men’s golf teams earn NCAA bids

The University of Colorado men’s golf team earned a berth in the NCAA Championships and will play in the Central Regional in Cleveland beginning May 18 at Sand Ridge Golf Club. The Buffaloes are seeded 19th as the fourth-best team out of district play. It was Colorado’s 24th NCAA tournament bid and the 13th in the past 18 years.

The University of Denver was selected to compete in the West Regional at the Omni Tucson National’s Catalina Course beginning May 18 in Arizona. It will be DU’s fourth consecutive regional appearance.

Colorado State’s Derek Whiting qualified as an individual for the West Regional.

The NCAA Championships will play out May 31 through June 3 at the Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. The top 10 teams from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Championships, along with two individuals not on advancing teams.
