I wrote here Tuesday that “Sideways” is one of the movies showing this summer at Cherry Creek North’s Films on Fillmore series.

Some readers called in to say, “Huh?”

“Sideways” is sandwiched in between Thursday night screenings of “Madagascar” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which are more in line with the annual lineup. After all, this is a free, outdoor event that welcomes families. People seem to remember scenes in “Sideways” that included sex and a guy running down the street naked and that bit with the chunky waitress when her husband comes home. … It is funny stuff, but is it family stuff?

Not to worry, says organizer Christina Brickley. “We have an edited version,” she explains. “It’s a wine theme night, with a wine tasting. We think it will be more of a couples night anyway.”

This is the first censored movie that Cherry Creek has shown. A company specializes in making R movies PG-13 worthy. And I’ll be on hand to introduce the film – and make sure no one naked shows up in person or on the screen.

Drink up

The June issue of Esquire picks The Best Bars in America. Denver ranks with two saloons, El Chapultepec and the Cruise Room, both worthy of a toast.

It also features a story from Denver writer and L.A. Times correspondent J.R. Moehringer about visiting bars when you don’t drink. “Though I quit drinking 15 years ago, I still enjoy the company of drinkers, and I still believe in the pleasures a bar can provide, particularly for the nondrinker. … No matter who you are, after you give up hangovers you still need hangouts.”

He also describes what it’s like to drink with “my buddy Bill” and “my friend Joe,” who might seem familiar to friends of me and Rocky Mountain Newsman Joe Rassenfoss. Sorry, you’ll have to go to Esquire for the gory deets.

Author Clive Cussler’s magnificent car collection is open again for the summer months – in Arvada.

Cussler opened the car museum to the public for the first time last June. He showed off about 45 of his vintage automobiles. This year he’s added another 25, all the new ones from the 1950s.

The museum, at 14959 W. 69th Ave., is open Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., $7 admission. Last summer, about 1,000 people went through. This is one of Denver secret treasures. Take a look at the rides below or go to .
