Cañon City – Three children were fetched barely alive from the bottom of a swimming pool in south Cañon City on Tuesday night, and the mother of one was charged with drug use and possession.
She also was charged with child abuse and neglect. All three children were in critical condition.
Cañon City emergency crews responded to the home after a 911 call at 6:15 p.m.
The caller said two of the children “didn’t look good.”
Police would not release names.
A 1-year-old boy, a 2-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were rushed to St. Thomas More Hospital in Cañon City.
The 1-year-old and 2-year- old were then airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.
Two adults, including the mother, were present and pulled the three children from the above-ground pool, said Cañon City Fire Lt. Scott Johnson.
Three firefighters worked the scene.
“It’s always a tough thing when kids are involved,” Johnson said.
“All of the guys at the scene are fathers.”
