The compass rose is a very significant thing in my life because I want to be a photojournalist and travel to all these different places and make pictures, like Ansel Adams and Ruth Adams.

When I take my family to the movies at the Promenade, we arrive early so that we can play a game on the rose. A parent stands in the middle of the rose with eyes shut while my daughter walks around the rose. When the parent says “stop,” my daughter then is to calculate the approximate number of walking steps to that location. A correct answer is rewarded with an extra-large popcorn.

Do I love movies or what? Twice this weekend alone, on my way to the AMC Promenade theater complex. On Saturday on the way to the movies, as my daughter, Kit, and I walked across the dial, I said, “Let’s go to Fargo, only 863 miles.” She failed to see the humor. Sunday, I crossed the compass again at “Denver 10 mi,” to see “Art School Confidential” in one of the AMC Select theaters. Finally! A theater showing art films in the northwest suburbs! The ticket agent told me the movies in the Select theaters would change weekly. Oh, oh, future weekends are really mapped out for me now.
