The Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse got a game-high five points from Jeff Sonke in a 15-11 victory over the host San Francisco Dragons on Sunday at Kezar Stadium.

Sonke scored two 2-point goals, each on a man-advantage, to lead the Outlaws (2-0). Brad Reppert scored two goals and added an assist for three points to lead the Dragons (0-1), who lost their first franchise game.

The game was tied 4-4 into the second quarter, but after San Francisco took a 6-5 lead, Denver scored six unanswered goals to take an 11-6 lead into halftime. The Outlaws led the rest of the game.

U.S. Army racer wins Baghdad Bolder Boulder

U.S. Army soldier Clint Davis finished the Bolder Boulder Baghdad race in a winning time of 37 minutes, 23 seconds, and Janine Davison, a corporal in the Australian army, won the women’s race in 47:13. The race was held at Camp Victory in Iraq, with 601 runners from 29 countries of the multinational forces running in the extension.

Nebraska’s Gorsett earns national plaudit

Nebraska’s Luke Gorsett, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, was named to the College Baseball Foundation’s All-America team. Gorsett, one of five outfielders selected to the team, was among the Big 12 leaders in home runs, slugging percentage and batting average.

Nebraska on Sunday scored five runs in the final two innings, but Kansas held on for a 9-7 win over the Huskers in the Big 12 championship game. Kansas (42-23) earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska (42-15) will be given an at-large bid today when the selection committee announces the bracket and will be one of 16 hosts for a regional round, beginning Friday.
