Bob’s Steak & Chop House is ready for its ultimate makeover.
Monty Morris, GM of the clubby Clayton Lane eatery, confirms that owner Bob Sambol has sold his interest in the biz to his original partner from Dallas, Bill Lenox. Lenox, we hear, has teamed up with a well- known Denver steakman to rethink the place.
Plans for the joint include opening the front wall to the street so people can see in – and out. Look for a big patio outside, a redesign inside, and a menu that has lower prices and new items. The steaks will stay juicy and prime.
I’ve heard that Bob’s will shut down this summer for about a month to make the changes. It’ll be back with a new look and a new name.
Bob’s is wildly popular in Dallas but struggled to be a big hit in Denver after it opened here Feb. 1, 2005. People didn’t know what to make of the giant glazed carrot that came with the steaks or the prices that seemed wacky even by steakhouse standards. Expect good things from its new start.
Kilgore lives
To many, Kilgore Trout is a Kurt Vonnegut Jr. character. To the more fortunate, it’s the name of a quirky restaurant that operated in Evergreen for 10 groovy years, ending on Dec. 6, 1986. More than a restaurant, it was an est-aurant. Operators Jim Ronchetti and Lyn Corona are no longer a couple, but they are hosting a reunion of Kilgore Trout’s Wednesday evening at the Evergreen Lake House. $60 gets you in to see old staffers and customers and eat the legendary Fettuccini Ronchetti (pasta, cream, crab, mushrooms, butter, garlic, pepper and cheese!).
Ronchetti is a handyman and yoga instructor; Corona teaches A Course in Miracles and provides health services. More than 80 people are down to attend. “I think it’s going to be an absolute panic,” says Ronchetti. “It was a real opportunity for all of us to grow. It was a magical decade for us.” Call him for info at 303-564-4755.
HAHA
It’s free, but is it funny?
Second City’s local comedy “How I Lost My Denverginity” opens to reviewers June 23, so I won’t know till then. Press material say “Audiences will
recognize themselves and their neighbors, and laugh out loud at the revue that only somebody with out-of-state plates could write.” Uh-oh.
The performance at 7 p.m. Sunday is FREE to all comers, one seat-per-person at the box office at the Garner Galleria Theatre beginning at 5 p.m.
